Let's make spicy pepper paste from Tunisia.
Harissa is a flavourful addition to sauces, soups, pastas or marinades. It goes well with any meat or fish, be it fried, baked or grilled. It can be made out of a few ingredients easily available in stores. How much olive oil you put in will let you adjust the spiciness - the less oil, the spicier the paste.
Ingredients
- 250 g grilled bell peppers
- 4-5 hot chili peppers
- 5 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 garlic clove
- 2 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp dried coriander
- 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
- 0.5 tsp cayenne
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
Method
- Soak chili peppers in boiling hot water for 30 minutes.
- Once the peppers are soaked, clean out the seeds and slice the peppers.
- Into a blender add grilled peppers, sliced chili peppers and garlic.
- Add spices: salt, pepper, cumin, coriander, cayenne and smoked paprika. Add lemon juice. Blend until smooth.
- Gradually add in olive while blending until all the ingredients are well combined.
- Enjoy!
