Garlic buns with baked Camembert

Garlic buns with baked Camembert is a great sharing idea!

The idea is based on a recipe for garlic buns that I saw once on the Internet. The original method used Parmesan both inside and outside of the buns. I say we go wild, and use baked, melting Camembert. A must-have snack for a party!

Ingredients
Dough
  • 550 g strong, white flour
  • 300 ml kefir or buttermilk
  • 7 g dried yeast or 25 g fresh yeast
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 60 g butter
  • 1 egg youl
  • 2 tbsp milk

Filling

  • 50 g butter
  • 3-4 garlic cloves
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp hot paprika
  • Camembert

Method

  1. Prepare the dough starter. Bring efir up to the body temperature. Add yeast, sugar and melted butter; put aside in a warm place for 15 minutes.
  2. Add salt to the flour and mix it through.
  3. Add the yeast mixture into the flour. Mix it with a wooden spoon until combined.
  4. Knead the dough, first in the bowl, then on a worktop until a point it's smooth and elastic. (About 15 minutes).
  5. Cover the dough and place it in a dry, warm place for an hour to raise
  6. After one hour place the dough onto your working surface, knead for a while, and put aside covered in a warm place for another 30 minutes.
  7. Prepare the filling. Add garlic to butter (minced or put through a garlic press), chopped parsley, pepper and hot paprika. Mix it well to get a thick paste.
  8. Place the dough on a working surface and roll it out into a rectangle about 1-1.5 cm thick. Make an effort so that the shape of the dough is as rectangular as possible - it will make forming the buns easier.
  9. Spread the filling in an even layer across the dough, leaving a clean 2cm strip on one of the longer sides.
  10. Roll the dough into a log. Place it seam down and divide into 8 equal parts.
  11. Place the Camembert cheese in the middle of a circular baking tin. Take each of your 8 buns, close them from the bottom, and place them around the cheese.
  12. Whisk the egg yolk briefly with 2 tbsp of milk. Spread the mixture on top of the buns.
  13. Bake the buns for 30 minutes at 200oC (180oC fan), until golden. Place it on a wire rack for 5 minutes after baking so they will cool down slightly.
  14. Enjoy!
