Today I'd like to share a recipe for homemade barbecue sauce.
Homemade sauces are always a good idea in barbecue season. This one will work perfectly as a marinade for baked or grilled meats as well as a dip or even pizza sauce. It's a fantastic mix of flavours: delicate sweetness is balanced by the sour vinegar, while the spices add in a smoky aroma and a bit of heat.
You'll find a list of ingredients, method and approximate nutritional value below.
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp oil
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 cup ketchup (~240g)
- 1/4 cup water (~60 g)
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar (~60 g)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (~50 g)
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cayenne
Method
- Heat up the oil on a small heat. Add in pressed garlic and cook for about a minute.
- Add sugar and spices: smoked paprika, chili and cayenne. Stir and continue cooking for another minute.
- Add in apple cider vinegar and water. Keep stirring until sugar dissolves.
- Add ketchup. Bring the mixture up to a boil and continue cooking until the liquid is reduced by 1/3, stirring from time to time.
- Enjoy!
