Panna cotta with orange syrup

Today I'd like to share a recipe for another romantic dessert for two! This time we'll get inspired by the Italian cuisine - and we'll prepare elegant, creamy panna cotta with orange syrup.

Panna cotta is delicate and creamy, with subtle vanilla undertones, while the orange syrup just hits the sweet spot. I promise that if you prepare it for your second half, they will not look at you sideways!

You'll find the list of ingredients, method and approximate nutritional value below.

Ingredients
Panna cotta (4 servings)
  • 400 ml whipping cream
  • 150 ml milk
  • 4 tbsp (~50 g) sugar
  • 3.5 gelatin leaf
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Orange syrup (2 servings)

  • 1 orange
  • Juice of 2 oranges (~130 ml)
  • 3 tbsp (~40 g) sugar
  • 2 tbsp orange liqueur
  • Chocolate sprinkles

  1. Put a few gelatin leaves into cold water for about 5 minutes to soak. The exact amount will depend on your gelatin brand - the directions on my packet instruct me to use 3.5 leaves for 500 ml liquid.
  2. While gelatin is soaking, prepare the other ingredients. Into a pan pour 400 ml whipping cream and 150 ml milk. Add sugar and 1 tsp vanilla paste.
  3. Turn the heat on to medium low until cream starts simmering at the edges and the liquid looks as if it is about to boil. Turn the pan off heat then and set aside for a minute.
  4. Press gelatin to remove excess water and add it to cream. Stir to dissolve gelatin.
  5. Divide the liquid between 4 glasses - I used 4 x 200 ml glasses and propped them so they would lie at an angle. Put panna cottas for a few hours into a fridge to set.
  6. Prepare syrup. Into a pan put 40 g sugar and pour in juice of two oranges. Stir to dissolve sugar and cook at low heat until a large portion of liquid evaporates.
  7. Once syrup thickens up take pan off heat and pour the contents into a separate bowl. Add 2 tbsp orange liqueur and mix thoroughly. Set syrup aside to cool completely.
  8. Peel one large orange with a sharp knife. Remove the skin from orange segments.
  9. Put a few segments on top of panna cotta, pour in 2-3 tbsp cool orange syrup and put some chocolate sprinkles on top.
  10. Enjoy!
